Description

We are seeking a Payments Assistant. To deliver operational activities within a payments team to facilitate payments to service users and internal and external care providers within agreed timescales, under the management and guidance of senior staff.

Responsibility

To work to defined business standards and processes; performing specific finance and clerical tasks with due regard to confidentiality and safeguarding. To create, process and examine purchase orders and invoices to ensure they comply with Financial Regulations, relevant departmental procedures and statutory guidance. To clarify and resolve queries from suppliers, service users, external agencies, organisations and staff within the authority in connection with this role. Due to the nature of the job, you will be required to be in the office half a day a week, even after you are fully trained.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills to NVQ2 or equivalent
  • Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media and knowledge of account software.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Knowledge of Financial Regulations and Accountancy processes, including VAT
  • Understanding of the Data Protection Act
  • Experience of working in a busy setting to strict timescales
  • Experience working in a financial environment using systems such as accounts payable
  • Experience in data input and data management, ensuring   accuracy and, where appropriate, confidentiality
  • Significant experience and competence using IT and standard business support packages, including word processing and spreadsheets
  • Experience in providing information to the public or customers using good communication skills
  • Experience in using defined business processes and giving guidance on them to colleagues
  • commitment to excellent customer care
  • Works efficiently and effectively, and actively looks for ways of improving services and outcomes for customers
  • Works well with colleagues but is also able to work on their own initiative
  • commitment to providing a safe environment for customers and staff, and treating all with respect and consideration
  • Advanced MS Office and will be using three different systems throughout the day, so the ability to pick up systems and multitask would be desired.
  • High organisational skills and the ability to plan/prioritise workloads would be essential
  • Must be able to commit to the duration of the role.

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • 3 years' reference including current employment
  • Enhanced DBS & barred list check
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
