We are recruiting a Cook to work in a Children's Centre; to be responsible for providing children and young people with complex health needs with food in adequate quantities, adequately prepared, wholesome and nutritious. Taking into consideration their cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds and dietary requirements and choices (including the option of vegetarian meals for children who wish it):
Responsibility
To carry out their duties with due regard to current Food Hygiene legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines as well as The Children's Homes Regulations (2015), including the quality standards and Statement of Purpose of the Short break Centre. To carry out duties with due regard to Customer Care, Equal Opportunities and Best Value Policies and incorporating the Core Competencies:
Qualification – Essential
· GCSEs or equivalent to include Maths and English
· Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
· Certificate of food and hygiene
· Standard user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work
· Knowledge of the nutritional requirements of children & food hygiene
· Experience in meeting the dietary needs of children and young people with profound disabilities
· Experience in cooking for a large number of people and planning/implementing menus
· Ability to implement relevant legal frameworks and procedures relating to food
· Ability to prepare and cook food to a high standard
· Ability to maintain a high standard of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene
· Ability to cater for children's preferences in diet
· Ability to cook correct portions of food for each meal
· Ability to plan own workload to meet daily deadlines
· Ability to manoeuvre and lift cooking equipment and other loads safely
· Ability to order the correct amount of food for each menu
· Ability to read and understand labels and cooking instructions
· Ability to implement sound customer care principles
· Ability to work as part of a team
· Understands and incorporates equality of opportunity into work
· Ability to work shifts as per rota weekends
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Three Years of Reference
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
