- Description
We are recruiting an organised and confident Engagement Officer to support a busy programme of highways and place-based projects. You will help residents, businesses, schools, community groups and other stakeholders understand proposed schemes, share their views and stay informed throughout delivery. This hands-on role combines stakeholder engagement, event coordination, enquiry management, communications, and reporting across several projects. You will need to travel around the borough and occasionally work evenings or weekends to support public engagement activity.
What you will do- Develop and maintain stakeholder maps, engagement plans, contact records and activity trackers.
- Coordinate community engagement across multiple highways schemes and project deadlines.
- Organise and support drop-ins, exhibitions, workshops, walkabouts, meetings and public events.
- Log, acknowledge and coordinate responses to enquiries from residents, businesses, elected Members and community organisations.
- Arrange venues, materials, staffing, accessibility support and other event logistics.
- Coordinate letters, leaflets, posters, surveys, display materials and digital content.
- Record feedback accurately, identify themes and produce clear engagement reports and briefings.
- Build constructive relationships with Council teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Promote inclusive, accessible engagement and handle personal information appropriately.
- Experience supporting stakeholder, community, customer or public engagement.
- Experience organising public-facing events, meetings, workshops or drop-in sessions.
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage several projects and deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and public-facing communication.
- Confidence dealing professionally with sensitive issues, challenging conversations and conflicting views.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, enquiry logs, trackers and audit trails.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to analyse feedback, identify themes and present findings clearly.
- Experience within a local authority, highways, transport, infrastructure, regeneration or another complex public-service environment.
- Knowledge of equality, accessibility, data protection and confidentiality in public engagement.
- A relevant qualification or training in engagement, communications, consultation, customer service or project support.
- You must be able to travel efficiently across Lewisham for meetings, site visits and public events.
- Occasional evening and weekend working will be required.
- The role may include work at outdoor locations and community venues.
- No direct staff-management responsibility.
- No DBS check is currently anticipated, subject to HR confirmation.
