About the Role

Are you an experienced Housing Solutions Officer with strong homelessness prevention knowledge and a passion for helping people secure safe, suitable housing? This is a rewarding opportunity to join a busy local authority housing service, supporting residents at a critical point in their housing journey and making a direct difference to people's lives.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Take ownership of homelessness prevention and relief cases, working with households to agree practical steps and achieve positive housing outcomes.
  • Provide clear, confident and accurate housing advice to tenants, homeowners, people asked to leave by family or friends, and those affected by relationship breakdown.
  • Use your expertise to support vulnerable residents and households with complex needs, ensuring every case is handled with professionalism, empathy and urgency.
  • Work closely with partners, agencies and internal teams to identify realistic housing options and prevent homelessness wherever possible.
  • Maintain accurate case records, meet service targets and contribute to a responsive, high-performing housing solutions service.
About You

We are looking for a confident, resilient and solutions-focused housing professional who can manage complex casework, communicate clearly and deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detailed knowledge of local authority duties under the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, Homelessness Act 2002, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and the Homelessness Code of Guidance for Local Authorities.
  • Good Understanding of related legislation, including child protection, security of tenure and wider statutory responsibilities relevant to homelessness casework.
  • Sound knowledge of services, benefits and support options available to applicants experiencing housing difficulties.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen, negotiate, build trust and manage sensitive conversations professionally.
  • A creative and practical approach to problem solving, with the confidence to interpret complex legislation and case law.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including clear case notes, decision letters and technical correspondence.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritise competing demands and work effectively to deadlines and performance targets.
  • Confidence working with partners, chairing meetings and representing the service professionally and constructively.
  • A positive attitude, commitment to continuous development and genuine motivation to improve outcomes for residents.
