Description

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated SEND Education Support Assistant to join the Resource Centre within Adult Social Care's Adults Provider Services. This is a rewarding interim opportunity supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities to build confidence, develop independence and achieve meaningful Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.

The Role

As a SEND Education Support Assistant, you will provide practical, emotional and educational support to young people with learning disabilities, autism, sensory needs and physical disabilities. Working closely with SEND Progression Mentors, you will help learners participate confidently in centre-based, community and everyday learning activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing person-centred, outcome-focused support at the Resource Centre, in the community and in other appropriate settings.
  • Supporting tailored group and one-to-one activities that promote confidence, communication, inclusion, English and Maths skills and greater independence.
  • Helping young people access local networks, community services and digital resources that support wellbeing, resilience and social participation.
  • Encouraging engagement through positive behavioural, emotional and practical support, including personal care where required.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will be patient, reliable and confident supporting young people with complex needs. You will be able to build positive relationships, adapt your approach and support each young person as an individual.

You will need:

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including behaviours of concern.
  • Experience facilitating group and one-to-one activities that support learning, progression and EHCP outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills and an Understanding of inclusive support using a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework.
  • Confidence providing personal care, supporting manual handling and working across centre-based and community settings.

You will also be able to:

Contribute to risk assessments, safeguarding procedures and health and safety practices.

Communicate professionally with colleagues, families, carers and external services.

Maintain accurate records and participate in regular training to keep your practice current and effective.
