Description

Our local government clients are recruiting a large goods vehicle driver. The ideal candidate should have previous experience driving a dustcart, preferably with a local authority and/or a waste services company. Drivers are required to help with loading and should have the ability to plot their route through the daily schedule. Candidates must be prepared to work flexibly (able to work beyond 2 pm contracted time to ensure all collections are completed) within a small team, ensuring rounds are completed promptly. Equally as important is the development of interpersonal skills over time to work well within a small, settled team of loaders and drivers. Manual Handling training would be provided.

Responsibility

Act as the lead operative with responsibility for the completion of all work allocated to the vehicle, safely and to a high standard. This will include directing other crew members on the car, always maintaining safe working practices—especially when reversing—and wearing personal protective equipment.  Report any issues with crew performance, conduct or adherence to health and safety to the Supervisor, including any supporting evidence, at the earliest opportunity.  A driver assistance skill would be a plus, although training could be provided if needed.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Manual Handling Certificate
  • CPC Driving Qualification
  • Full, clean driving licence for vehicles up to 32 tonnes.  (Category C licence.)
  • Good IT Skills - operate digital devices, such as mobile phones, handheld devices, tachographs, and cab-mounted devices.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements - Criteria to be Evaluated at the Shortlisting Stage.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Full, clean driving licence for vehicles up to 32 tonnes.  (Category C licence.)
  • Experience in prioritising work to ensure service delivery is maintained.
  • Experience of working as part of a team to deliver required outcomes.
  • Ability to carry out vehicle safety checks, to recognise vehicle defects within the scope of the vehicle briefing and training provided, and to make records of vehicle safety checks in logbooks.
  • Ability to complete driver hours records where required to do so.
  • Understanding of the requirement for specific types of waste to be separately collected and transported for separate disposal.
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card holder
  • Ability to undertake dynamic risk assessments when performing required waste collection and transportation tasks
  • Ability to direct the vehicle crew to perform the collection of waste needed and transportation tasks by safe operating procedures and risk assessment.
  • Ability to use and operate digital devices, such as mobile phones, handheld devices, tachographs, and cab-mounted devices.

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • 3 years' reference, including current employment
  • A standard DBS check will be required for this role
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
