We are currently recruiting an experienced Education Welfare Officer, operating as part of an integrated Education Welfare team, working in close collaboration with Schools, educational settings, and other agencies to deliver the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities in promoting and enforcing regular school attendance and child protection/safeguarding protocols.

Responsibility

To provide expert, customer-focused advice, guidance, and support on matters regarding child employment, child entertainment licences and Chaperone referrals. Ensure proper procedures are followed, ensuring the safeguarding of children’s welfare remains paramount.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Level 4 standard of education.
  • Qualification in child/education would be desirable.
  • Customer care qualification/training would be desirable
  • Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements - Criteria to be Evaluated at the Shortlisting Stage.

Successful candidates will have:

  • The ability to converse at ease, politely, and courteously with customers and provide accurate advice in spoken English is essential and consistent with the requirements of this role.
  • Knowledge of educational legislation relevant to attendance, pupils out of school, exclusions of pupils and child protection.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of delivering an Education Welfare Service.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with Schools and Agencies in a partnership role.
  • Knowledge of the structure and operation of Local Government and its various multi-agency groups and Schools relating to school attendance.
  • Knowledge of national and local processes and policies relating to the Education Welfare Service systems and legislation associated with child employment and Chaperones.
  • Proven competency to understand and communicate complex processes clearly and respectfully to parents.
  • Sound understanding of the operation, priorities, and obligations of a Local Authority regarding Education Welfare.
  • Must have a good understanding of the education system, primarily regarding school attendance.
  • Evidence of ability to deliver timely, accurate and relevant advice, guidance and support on complex procedures and regulations.
  • Well-developed all-round ICT skills relating to systems and processes with experience of using Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams and other products and applications.
  • Ability to travel across the borough carrying out home visits where necessary, visiting schools, and attending meetings.  
  • Ability to work using own initiative while managing a demanding workload effectively, prioritising work and adopting a flexible approach to changing and competing challenges
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles underpinning equal opportunities and the ability to apply them.

  • 5 Years References.
  • Enhanced CRB/DBS Within Last 12 Months
