We seek a dynamic Advanced Youth Offending Service Officer to be responsible for a caseload of children and young people in the community Using AssetPlus as Assessment and Planning tool to undertake case management with specific focus on trauma informed practice building foundations for change and desistance factors to support children and young people to refrain from offending and re-offending

Responsibility

To undertake bail assessments and produce bail support packages for the Court, preparing Pre-Sentence Reports to the Courts and Referral Order reports to the Panel.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Diploma in Youth & Community Studies; Professional Certificate in Youth Justice, Foundation Degree in Youth Justice, etc.) 
  • Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media and AssetPlus.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements - Criteria to be Evaluated at the Shortlisting Stage.
Successful candidates will have:

  • Manage a caseload of youth justice cases, both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, according to the National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework.
  • Experience working with the Child First, Offender Second approach, to provide adequate support and interventions to children and young people to complete their disposals/orders and live a crime-free life.  
  • Communicate effectively with children and young people, their families, and relevant internal and external partners to secure the best possible outcome for them.
  • To ensure that equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice are a priority throughout all areas of the work.
  • Advanced use of Asset Plus as an Assessment and Planning tool to undertake case management with a specific focus on trauma-informed practice, building foundations for change and desistance factors to support children and young people to refrain from offending and re-offending.
  • To work collaboratively with children and young people, their families and partner agencies to deliver effective evidence-based group and/or individual interventions/programmes to reduce the risk of offending, re-offending and disengagement from education, employment and training.
  • To prepare Pre-Sentence Reports or Stand-Down Reports for the Court and Panel Reports for Referral Order Panel and other forums as required.
  • To represent YJTPS and present information to the Courts.
  • To provide effective engagement and deliver interventions based on the assessment analysis to keep the child or young person safe and other people safe.
  • Experience working directly with young people in an inner city, multicultural environment. OR Significant experience of working in a field directly related to youth offending.
  • Proven experience identifying risk and protective factors and the ability to analyse the underlying causes of their offending.
  • Knowledge and experience of systemic, restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Strong experience in representing the YOS in Court, and able to provide advice and support to young people and their families.
  • Able to undertake bail assessments and produce bail support packages for the Court.
  • A high level of skill in managing complex high-risk cases and the ability to solve complex situations
  • The ability to challenge offending behaviour by young people.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills, and the ability to write reports within a youth justice environment.
  • Able to apply knowledge of safeguarding and youth justice legislation and the principles underpinning good practice
  • Experience in case management with young people at risk of offending in a statutory or voluntary sector setting.
  • Expert in Court Orders, using YOS Case Management system, Local Enforcement Policies /Procedures & Youth Justice Plan
  • Strong understanding of risk factors that lead young people to become involved in offending
