Description
The Commercial Vehicle Technician (Level 3) role supports the Workshop Manager by undertaking fleet vehicle maintenance, including third-party and plant maintenance processes. These processes are carried out effectively to meet service obligations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Responsibility
To assist in delivering an efficient and effective Transport Workshop Service, through the maintenance of the fleet vehicle, including third-party vehicular and plant fleet maintenance, effectively and safely. Duties include the individual’s combined and effective use of skills, expertise, and the technical resources of the Transport Workshop, in respect of inspection, servicing and repair of vehicles, plant and their associated components, employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to ensuring the fleet is maintained in a legal and roadworthy condition.
Qualification – Essential
- GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
- NVQ 3 or IMI 3 Heavy Motor Vehicle qualification or equivalent
- Commercial Vehicle Inspector (VOSA accreditation)
- Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media and CRM.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements - Criteria to be Evaluated at the Shortlisting Stage.
Successful candidates will be:
- Experience in a transport workshop environment or operating within a team in transport logistics or an equivalent.
- Intermediate welding skills and/or Motor Vehicle Electrical Skills to NVQ 2 standard or equivalent.
- Ability to be part of a standby team working from 21.30 to 06.30.
- Ability to learn new software packages quickly and thoroughly.
- A working knowledge of the Chevin Fleetwave™ IT system (within 6 months)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrable numeracy and office administration skills.
- Ability to operate within strict Quality Control guidelines and ensure adherence by the in-house vehicle maintenance team.
- Willingness and ability to undertake training to meet the job criteria, develop individual strengths, and minimise weaknesses.
- Ability to ensure work is completed to the required standard within timescales.
- Ability to work split shifts 06.30 to 21.30 hours Monday to Friday.
- Provide standby cover on a 1 in 9-week rota, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Ability to maintain Commercial Vehicle Technicians' performance standard within management KPI targets.
- Ability to work without supervision and work within a busy team environment.
- Ability to develop own work plans and milestones to meet agreed targets.
- Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act
- Experience working effectively without supervision, supporting staff, and working in a busy team environment.
- Ability to assist management and service users in enhancing their service delivery.
- Knowledge and understanding of the aims and values, and how they impact the transport role.
- Experience in procuring goods and services from a range of suppliers.
