Description

We seek a dynamic Personal Advisor—Looked After Leaving Care Service role. This role is significant as it is designed to support care leavers successfully transitioning to adulthood. Your contribution to the assessments, formulation, implementation, and review of Pathway Plans through direct interventions and full engagement of the young person will have a profound impact. You will also help Care Leavers develop practical independent living skills, hold a tenancy, and create financial capabilities.

Responsibility

Provide coaching and motivational support to enable young people to build the confidence and self-esteem to be successful in adulthood. Through regular contact, safeguard and protect care leavers as they transition to independence. Ensure they are effectively engaged in suitable accommodation, education, training, or employment appropriate to their abilities and aspirations.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Degree level or extensive experience directly working with children and young people.
  • Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, social media and CRM.

Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Experience working with vulnerable children, young adults, and families according to statutory guidance directly in or in partnership with local authorities' children's services.
  • Experience contributing to safeguarding and supporting children, young adults, and families, as required by the Children Act 1989 and the Leaving Care Act 2000.
  • Experience working in health, housing, youth and employment settings where skills and knowledge can be transferred to a statutory children's services setting.
  • Knowledge of the impact of Adverse Child Experiences and the principles of Trauma Informed Care when dealing with homeless people who have complex needs.    
  • Knowledge of the Care Act and Housing legislation and the available support for single homeless adults.
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits and other support available to supported accommodation residents.
  • Health and Safety issues about a supported housing setting.
  • Experience working with homeless people with complex support needs.                                               
  • Experience in recovery-focused and harm-minimisation service provision for clients with multiple and complex needs.
  • Experience in risk assessment, critical working and support planning.
  • Experience of case coordination in a multi-agency setting.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills relevant to the statutory context and job role.
  • Organisational skills to manage time effectively to balance the competing demands of direct work, undertake practical tasks, record keeping, and follow statutory processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, families, and community members to provide or access support and achieve change.
  • Ability to assess needs, formulate and communicate plans of support and transitions to independence.
  • Ability to analyse information and implement SMART plans of action.
  • Ability to prepare simple reports and correspondence.  

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • Five Years of Reference.
  • Enhanced DBS Checks are required for the role.
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
