Description

We are recruiting a Homelessness Prevention and assessment Officer for our local government client in Southeast London. The officer will provide a comprehensive, high-quality homelessness prevention, support, and advice service to all households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

Responsibility

We seek an experienced homelessness prevention and assessment officer with extensive knowledge of the Homelessness Act, relevant legislation, guidance, and case law. You’ll have a proven ability to carry out detailed affordability assessments and demonstrate excellent communication skills. Your experience of working in high-pressure environments will enable you to make well-informed decisions under tight deadlines and manage your workload effectively. Whilst your primary duties will focus on move-on activities.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Relevant professional-level qualification
  • Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Social Media.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Requirements - Criteria-to be Tested at Shortlisting

  • Practical casework management experience.
  • Time management and caseload management are critical skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and delivering housing access and homelessness services.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Experience in all aspects of the Housing Acts
  • Experience in dealing with homelessness legislation as it affects landlord & tenant relationships or homelessness
  • Have detailed knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 Part VI and Part VII.
  • Knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, parts 6 and 7, and other relevant legislation, guidance, policy and directives.
  • Knowledge of Part 7 of the 1996 Housing Act and the Homelessness Act 2002
  • To be successful, a candidate must have the ability to complete an affordability assessment and have essential knowledge of all relevant platforms.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act
  • Must have a good track record of achieving excellence in negotiation.
  • Must have the required knowledge of different tenures.
  • Detailed working knowledge of homeless prevention initiatives and their application and effectiveness.
  • Detailed working knowledge of the welfare benefits system and its application.
  • Detailed working knowledge of other statutory and voluntary agencies, providing relevant advice and assistance to customers under alternative legislation and in all forms of tenure.
  • A detailed understanding and application of the terms and conditions contained in the range of tenancy agreements across all tenures.

  • Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service
