Description

We seek a dedicated Leaving Care Personal Advisor, a role of utmost importance in providing a statutory social work service for children in care and care leavers aged 18-25. This position is vital in ensuring all legislative requirements are met, working with eligible, qualifying care leavers on a case management basis, coordinating, preparing, and completing pathway plans, and supporting young people in their transition to independent adulthood.

 Responsibility

Your role will involve providing appropriate programmes for individual service users of the Service, in conjunction with other Directorate staff and other agencies within this field. This work is challenging and incredibly rewarding, as it effectively assists young people in achieving the transition to adulthood, with a particular emphasis on their transition from being in care to living independently in the community.

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • NVQ level 3 in Social Care and A willingness to undergo appropriate training courses as directed.
  • Advanced – Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, social media, and CRM.

Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Substantial experience working with children and young people up to 21 and 25 if they are in a voluntary or Professional higher education setting.
  • Proven experience in interagency work with young people who are vulnerable, at risk, homeless or have been in care. This includes experience in being directly responsible for assisting young people (caseload responsibility).
  • Have worked successfully in achieving outcomes for Young People under supervision.
  • Able to write emails, reports, case records and other documents using electronic case recording systems and software such as Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to advise young people about budgeting and to be financially accountable where appropriate. 
  • Ability to seek and secure education, training and employment opportunities for care leavers. 
  • Ability to talk to, listen to, and develop good working relationships with young people, including those who may be difficult to engage or are challenging.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with family, carers, professionals & partner agencies.  (Education, training, employment, accommodation, police, probation, prison, DWP, health, etc).
  • A friendly, sympathetic, understanding and realistic approach to the needs of young people.
  • Ability to manage time and work to deadlines.
  • A commitment to anti-oppressive and anti-discriminative practice.
  • An ability to plan and carry out work on an individual or group basis to assist young people to prepare for and move into independence.
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and policy about leaving care.
  • An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence using the English Language as required by Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016
  • Knowledge of issues regarding care leavers, housing employment and welfare rights provision for young people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of young people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with differing abilities

  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
