We are recruiting a Media Relations Officer to promote the Organisation and its policies through the delivery of an effective proactive and reactive media and public relations service:
Responsibility
Responsible for delivering an effective proactive and reactive media and public relations service for the Organisation:
Qualification – Essential
· GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent to include Maths and English
· Degree level or equivalent, or NVQ level 4 &/or relevant experience
· a minimum of two years experience in a PR or press office setting or as a working journalist
· Advanced user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, social media:
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Experience & understanding of how the media works to deadlines.
· Knowledge of how to handle media enquiries & manage them effectively.
· Experience in drafting Proactive Media Handling plans and press releases.
· Experienced in writing news releases, features and copy.
· Experience producing the morning news summary, requiring coverage of print, broadcast
and e-media and senior briefings on a rota basis.
· Experience working closely with journalists in all types of media.
· Solid experience organising media briefing events, including planning and delivering events
to a high standard.
· Experience organising photocalls, including planning and assessing risks and opportunities
of such events.
· Able to provide advice and support to officers and elected Members.
· Experience briefing officers and elected Members to participate in interviews with print,
broadcast and online journalists.
· Able to produce accurate and newsworthy press releases that have undergone the
necessary clearance procedures.
· Able to produce briefing notes, Q&As and other media information in liaison with other
departments.
· Able to produce copy for various publications, including local news publications.
· Able to build contacts and relationships with individuals, groups, Government and other
national and regional organisations.
· Able to lead some projects and support other officers in various organisation-wide initiatives.
· Able to keep up with best practices in media relations, attending meetings of professional
bodies, training events and reading material as part of the annual work plan.
· Excellent organisational and administration skills.
