We’re looking for a motivated Legal Officer to contribute their legal skills and experience to assist with two busy local authority clients:
Responsibility
To advise on and draft various routine legal residential property work within the context of a local authority. Conducting research and preparing legal documentation, you will maintain efficient administrative systems, and you will always look for ways in which we can improve our service and support our clients. Working with clients face-to-face and over the phone, you will support a wide variety of stakeholders and partners and be our interface with the Land Registry, HMRC (Inland Revenue/SDLT), search providers, courts, suppliers and other legal practices.:
Qualification – Essential
· GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent to include Maths and English
· A Law degree or CILEX is preferred; we will consider candidates with appropriate experience
· Advanced user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media, and CRM:
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Experience working within a local authority property legal team
· Experience in advising on all routine residential property matters, including lease
extensions (statutory and voluntary), licences to alter, Licences to assign, certificates of
compliance, right-to-buy transactions, acquisitions of leases (buybacks) and purchases of
freeholds (acquisition programmes)
· Experience drafting and advising on more complex elements, including equity loans or
shared equity arrangements
· Assisting clients (including drafting) with easements, general charging of assets, dealing
with discharging of charges and other property-related matters
· Experience drafting licence to occupy, Right for alterations, Licence to assign, CCTV
licence, scaffolding licence etc.
· Experience in drafting and advising on restrictive covenants, release and variation of
restrictive covenants
· Dealing with post-completion formalities and leaseholder queries
· Dealing with all Land Registration applications and requisitions
· Advising on ad hoc residential matters
· Dealing with spreadsheets and updating trackers, and keeping clients informed
· Experience in report writing and legal implications
· Experience in property transactions involving local authority companies
· Understanding of essential commercial property matters, acquisitions, disposals and
leases
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Three Years of Reference
· DBS - Enhanced
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
