Description

Our local government client is recruiting a Business Support Officer- Special Educational Needs. To provide business support to the SEND department in line with the statutory duties under the Children and Families Act (2014) and the SEND Code of Practice (2015). Provide robust document management of statutory Consultation process, EHC Plans, Annual Reviews and related information, ensuring all data management complies with GDPR.

Responsibility

Responsible for handling many incoming telephone calls and emails, responding appropriately, or forwarding them to relevant recipients. Accountable for processing EHCNA requests accurately and within statutory timescales. 

Qualification – Essential

  • GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • NVQ Level 3, BTEC Business, equivalent experience.
  • Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Social Media.
  • CapitaOne database system

Essential - Skills, Abilities, & Experience

  • Experience using the CapitaOne database system and working within a local authority SEN team.
  • Ability to act as the first point of contact for all incoming calls and queries in the SEN Casework team.
  • Experience supporting SEND caseworkers with admin tasks as part of business and specific SEND Projects.
  • Prepare the agenda, collate relevant papers for review, and collate and record decisions to support decision-making panels.
  • Accurately and within timescales process new Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessments requests.
  • Experience updating IT systems and contacting families and education settings for additional information where required.
  • Experience in providing general assistance, clerical, administrative, and IT support to special education needs services.
  • Ability to liaise with young people, families, schools, multi-agency partners, and professionals throughout the assessment procedures, monitoring the receipt of required professional reports and tracking the process, following up where necessary in line with statutory timescales.
  • Able to communicate decisions as appropriate using IT systems.
  • Organise and monitor translation and interpretation services on behalf of SEND, including raising purchase orders and paying invoices using IT systems.
  • Collate accurate and timely responses from service teams concerning Freedom of Information requests.

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • Five Years of References.
  • Enhanced CRB/DBS Within Last 12 Months
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
