Description
We seek Housing Benefit Assessment Officers To accurately, efficiently, and courteously assess entitlement for Housing Benefits, Council Tax Support, and discretionary funds, such as Discretionary Housing Payments, by statutory provisions and local policies and procedures.
Responsibility
Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements. Assess applications, statements, and evidence for accuracy, request additional evidence where necessary, and calculate entitlement according to legislation and local policies.
To undertake any other temporary responsibilities aligned with the overall purpose and grade of the role.
Qualification – Essential
- GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
- Relevant professional-level qualification
- A high standard of literacy and numeracy
- Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, social media and CRM.
Essential - Skills, Abilities, & Experience
- Practical working knowledge of the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support regulations
- Knowledge of welfare benefits and their application
- Experience in assessing claims for Housing Benefits and Council Tax Support
- Experience using Northgate’s i-world application
- Experience in using an electronic document management system
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience working in a front-line customer service role
- Use of clear and logical thinking in assessing challenges, solving problems, and achieving timely outcomes
- Ability to understand, retain and apply complex legislation and regulations
- Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex decisions verbally and in writing.
- Ability to analyse data to identify and correct discrepancies where appropriate
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Commitment to preventing, detecting, and deterring benefit fraud
- Commitment to the delivery of a customer-focused service
- Accurate and systematic approach to work
- Ability to cope with a high-volume, pressurised environment where customers are often under a high degree of personal and financial stress
- A flexible approach to changes in procedures, processes, locations and day-to-day office duties
Essential Compliance Requirements
- Two Years of Reference.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service
- A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
