- Our client in South East London is looking for a Housing Choice Officer– To work closely with internal departments, industry partners, and voluntary agencies to assist vulnerable households and those in housing need to access relevant services and make informed choices in addressing their housing needs.
Responsibility
To support customers through the choice-based lettings schemes from the initial completion of a housing application through to bidding and being rehoused into appropriate, affordable housing; this will include assisting vulnerable applicants to make necessary changes and to place bids on their behalf:
Qualification – Essential:
· GCSE Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics
· BTEC level or demonstrable ability to operate at this level
· Advanced – Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, social media and CRM
Essential Skills, Abilities, & Experience
· Providing an effective advice service to members of the public.
· Implementing an equal opportunities approach in service delivery.
· Experience in carrying out interviews, assessments and negotiations.
· Experience in successfully working to performance targets and deadlines.
· Experience in effective record keeping, including electronically.
· Thorough understanding of inner-city housing issues and understanding of access to social
and private housing.
· Knowledge of relevant lettings and homelessness legislation.
· Good knowledge of services, benefits and support available to applicants experiencing
housing problems.
· Knowledge of relevant case laws and Codes of Guidance.
· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including active listening,
detailed letters and reports.
· Able to quickly interpret complex issues and written materials, think creatively about
problems, and identify solutions.
· Ability to work effectively and even-handedly with people from different backgrounds.
· Ability to advocate and negotiate on behalf of customers and landlords.
· To work outside regular working hours to respond to emergencies or attend meetings.
· Must demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to equal opportunities.
· Knowledge of Health & Safety Policy.
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Three Years of Reference
· Enhanced DBS required
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
