To administer and process information received from the public, outside agencies and internal departments in respect of the billing and collection of Council Tax, miscellaneous income and mortgages:
Responsibility
Responsible for administering all appellant proposals received from the Valuation Officer and advising the Valuation Office of all alterations to properties within the Borough that may affect the rateable value or the property band:
Qualification – Essential
· GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent to include Maths and English
· NVQ Level 3 - Business Administration or equivalent
· Knowledge of the Academy Council Tax system
· Advanced user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams,
Social media and CRM:
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Practical experience with Council Tax and a good knowledge of all the relevant principles
and procedures governing it
· Strong IT, numeric and communication skills
· Ability to act professionally and communicate patiently but effectively with those in difficulty
· Experience in prioritising workload with minimum supervision and ability to adapt to
changing priorities and demands
· Proven experience working within a Council Tax Benefit environment
· A thorough understanding of Council Tax legislation to carry out the critical accountabilities
within the role profile
· Ability to use a computerised accounts system to maintain and update Council Tax records
accurately, retrieve information and initiate the section’s recovery procedures
· Ability to respond to customers’ enquiries: electronically, face to face and at Magistrates
Court
· Experience working on complex casework, including areas of legislation that require the
application of discretion or judgement
· Experience in handling complaints and areas requiring discretion or judgement
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Good problem-solving skills and ability to make sound judgments and decisions under
pressure
· Good analytical and comprehension skills
· Office-based initially, we welcome flexible working, regular home working with technology to
support this
