We are recruiting a Benefits and Council Tax Officer: - To deliver a professional, customer focussed and high-quality service whilst maximising revenue through the administration of the Council Tax and paying out Housing and Council Tax Benefits:
Responsibility
As part of a team to assist in administering Council Tax accounts. To maintain accurate records of liability, charges, reductions, payments and arrangements:
Qualification – Essential
· Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
· NVQ Level 3 - Business Administration or equivalent
· Evidence of continuous professional development
· Knowledge of the Council Tax system database
· Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Social Media:
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Practical experience with Housing & Council Tax benefits and a good knowledge of all
the relevant principles and procedures governing it
· Ability to act professionally and communicate patiently but effectively with those in
difficulty
· Experience in prioritising own workload with minimum supervision and ability to adapt to
changing priorities and demands
· Experience in undertaking home visits or property inspections
· Proven experience working within a Housing & Council Tax Benefit environment
· A thorough understanding of Council Tax legislation to carry out the critical
accountabilities within the role profile
· Ability to use a computerised accounts system to maintain and update records
accurately, retrieve information and initiate the sections' recovery procedures
· Ability to respond to customers' enquiries: electronically and face to face
· Experience working on complex casework, including areas of legislation that require the
application of discretion or judgement
· Experience in handling complaints and areas requiring discretion or judgement
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Good problem-solving skills and ability to make sound judgments and decisions under
pressure
· Good analytical and comprehension skills
· Able to work some evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays to meet service
requirements
· Willing to wear a uniform and to ensure that all staff adhere to this dress code
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Three Years of Reference
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
