Description
We are recruiting a Senior Support Worker to support children and young people with disabilities and their families, and our aim is always to put children and young people at the centre of all our care and support work:
Responsibility
To contribute to the planning and implementation of the day-to-day individual care needs of young people. To contribute to all aspects of the physical and emotional care of children and young people to promote their welfare whilst working in partnership with their families and other professionals:
Qualification – Essential
· GCSE's Grade A-C or equivalent to include Maths and English
· Level 3 Diploma in caring for children and young people
· Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Knowledge of the relevant legislation, policy and guidance relating to Children and Young
People's Services
· Excellent understanding of child and adolescent development, the importance of peer
influence, family and environmental factors upon their personal growth and transition to
adulthood
· Knowledge of current philosophy in childcare
· Ability to engage with and create a rapport and build relationships with young people and
parents/carers and families and to deal with complex issues in a sensitive and
appropriate manner
· Proven ability to assess risks posed to, and by, children and young people and propose
reasonable arrangements for safeguarding their well-being and protection of the public
· Able to devise effective preventative and educational interventions for children and young
people and translate them into realisable plans
· Ability to use a variety of communications tools, e.g. Makaton
· Experience in planning and delivering inclusive programmes of youth work/ informal
education in open-access settings that are focussed on improving education, health or
youth crime reduction outcomes
· Ability to formulate, implement and evidence effective individual and targeted group
interventions
· Ability to work with children and young people who present challenging behaviour.
· Ability to contribute to the normal development of children and young people through the
provision of a variety of appropriate, stimulating activities for an individual or a group
basis
· Willig to work on a rotated shift pattern
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Five Years of Reference
· Enhanced DBS
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
