We are recruiting a Probation Officer to undertake the full range of offender management tasks with offenders under supervision, including assessment, sentence implementation and reports, utilising service procedures and practice directions to underpin professional judgement:
Responsibility
To assess and manage the risk posed by offenders, protect victims of crime and the general public, and provide information and advice to criminal courts, other criminal justice agencies and partner organisations.
Qualification – Essential
· 5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent to include Maths and English
· Degree PQiP in Community Justice
· Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice or CQSW (Probation option)
· Advanced user –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media, MS Teams
Essential - Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Experience in working with a wide variety of people who have experienced a range of
social and personal difficulties
· Experience in working with diverse communities, including promoting equality and
valuing diversity
· Knowledge of Evidence-Based Practice and risk and needs assessment tools
· Ability to work with individuals and groups to motivate and change offending behaviour
· Knowledge and understanding of the work of the Criminal Justice System and the
Probation Service
· Knowledge and understanding of the work of the Youth Justice Service (YJS)
· Ability to fulfil a comprehensive range of case management responsibilities for
predominantly high and medium-risk children and young people
· Experience in children and young people subject to ISS in a custodial setting/subject to
custodial licence to the standards identified by the YJB and the YJS Management Board.
· Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records and files following Youth Offending
Service procedures and Data Protection legislation
· Experience in writing complex and formal reports for a variety of audiences, including
PSR, Same Day Reports, Stand Down and Referral Order Panel
· Ability to assess and manage the risk posed by offenders to protect victims of crime and
the general the public
· Ability to ensure timely and effective referrals to, and relationships between, the offender
management, court teams, victim contact units, interventions,
· Experience in approving Premises, prisons and external agencies to enhance positive
outcomes, manage risk and reduce reoffending
· Experience in attending professional meetings and representing the NPS at appropriate
partnership forums, e.g. MAPPA, MARAC
· To work collaboratively with colleagues, maintain effective team relationships and provide
professional guidance and support to Probation Services Officers (PSOs) and other staff
as appropriate
Essential Compliance Requirements
· Five Years of Reference
· Enhanced DBS
· A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role
